Vision

As previously mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy Trend is inaccessible to blind users. The TalkBack version built into this handset does not work well. The screen reader provides limited access to the visual content in the display. TalkBack updates currently available are not compatible with Android 4.0.

Partially blind users may also have a limited experience with this handset. While the font size and style can be changed, this feature only works in some interfaces and menus. It also lacks of a screen magnifier. In addition, color blind users may not be able to use this device because it does not provide a high contrast color scheme features.

Hearing

Samsung does not offer information on the device’s hearing aid compatibility rating. However, Amóvil has been able to attest that it is compatible with some hearing prosthetics in the microphone mode and through Bluetooth technology in hearing aids or cochlear implants that support it.

Hearing disabled users will also be able to send text messages or use any chat apps available for Android devices. Deaf users who prefer communicating in sign language will be able to make video calls using applications such as Skype or Google Hangouts.

Dexterity

Some features included in this Smartphone such as the hands-free feature and the option to link frequent contacts to the home screen for speed dialing can help users with poor dexterity skills. However, users with little or no dexterity skills may have a limited experience with this device. It does not provide built-in features that would enable these users to connect adaptive accessories such as a joystick or head wands. In addition, it does not support automatic call answering.

Nevertheless, there are two applications compatible with Android devices that may enable them to use this device. These are TECLA, a set of tools that provide access to mobile devices to persons with dexterity disabilities, and Sherpa a personal assistant that works similarly to SIRI. Both applications are available for downloading at no cost from Google Play.

Comprehension

The Samsung Galaxy Trend is suitable for people with limited comprehension skills. It includes standardized icons and symbols, and an option to customize the phone book and to arrange the home screen elements as desired.
