The eighth edition of the Mobile World Congress 2013 kicked off on Monday in Barcelona and it is expected to be attended by over 70,000 visitors from around the world. The fair, which was inaugurated by Prince Philip of Spain, has become one of the most important events in the field of mobile technology

The event began with Samsung unveiling the new Galaxy Note 8.0 which is being promoted as a multitasking mobile-tablet hybrid that enables users to run two apps in split-screen mode. The South Korean firm says that although this device is aimed at business users they also hope to conquer the e-reader market.

Huawei, on the other hand, presented the Android-powered Ascend P2, a 8.4-millimeter device featuring the highest-speed LTE connection seen so far in a smartphone that allows 4G download speeds of up to 150 megabits per second. The Ascent P2 will be available for purchasing in June, 2013 at Orange’s stores.

The MWC is the biggest mobile fair held so far, and expects to exceed its record attendance this year. The event ends on February, 28th.
