An augmented-reality application that translates content written for grownups into easy to read articles has been developed by Japan’s biggest newspaper The Tokio Shimbun. According to the BBC this simpleto use software allows a person to hold a smartphone over the newspaper to see the child-friendly version of an article.

The idea for the application comes from the newspaper’s interest to make news accessible to children in order to contribute to their educational development. However, it can also be useful to make news accessible to people with certain cognitive disabilities or with limitations to understand complex language.

The application has caught the attention of communication experts who considers it an excellent alternative to adapt any written context to users’ particular needs.
